Description
The elastic piping in black is a narrow decorative trim that you lay into a seam so that the edge gets a clean line. It is 8 mm wide and consists of 92% PA and 8% EL, so it stretches with the fabric – which is why it suits jersey, sweatshirt fabric and French Terry, where a rigid tape would block the seam.
When you sew, place the piping between the two layers of fabric with the rounded side facing inwards and stitch close to the edge with the zip foot. Black is the colour you use to draw a clear dividing line on bright or patterned fabrics: on pocket flaps, yokes, hood edges or down the side of a pair of trousers. My tip: do not pull on curves, let the piping run along loosely instead, otherwise the finished seam will ripple.
