Webbing in 100 % cotton by Hanabi, 30 mm wide, in black. 30 mm is the classic width for bag handles, rucksack straps and shoulder straps: enough surface so that the strap does not cut into the shoulder, and still narrow enough for buckles and carabiners in standard sizes.
Black goes with almost any outer fabric and is the most discreet choice when the fabric itself is already patterned. For sewing, use a stronger needle and stitch the attachment points as a rectangle with a cross through it, so the handle holds even with heavy contents. Cotton cannot be sealed with a flame like synthetic fibre: neaten the cut edges with zigzag or fold them in twice.
